After 30 years of 24/7 CCW I am still looking for the perfect carry gun. Right now I have it narrowed down to 3. Depending on weather, clothing, etc. It is a Kimber officers 4" .45.....90% of the time, a Kahr PM9 9mm maybe 5% of the time, or a Rohrbaugh 9mm. also maybe 5% of the time. Let us know how your choice works out.

I suck with pistols.... I have more that a few pistols, but I have never been a good pistol shot, beyond CQB tehniques... I applaud people who take the time to get good with them.

I'm from the UK and quite like guns if I'm perfectly honest, and now aged 53 I no longer hunt or shoot as I kept working Terriers and Lurchers, which I used to hunt Foxes Rabbit and Hares, my dogs would hunt up course and single handed kill a Fox or run down a hare over good terrain, as you can no longer hunt this way with dogs except gun dogs which you can flush and shoot game, and from an early age I owned and kept an array of guns all shotguns in various sizes 12 bore 16 bore 410 and 310 a small garden gun, It's quite a thorough process to own a gun in the UK with long forms including house call by the police doctors and professional references you must have signed and then check and cleared by the police, I have no problem with this if I'm honest and have no problem with people owning guns, but I'm against a law that says you can buy a gun to defend yourself, I just think there's no place for this in a civilized society.

Thanks for the response Scott and Double O, I see your point of view maybe America does have a lot more criminals and some bad ass guys walking around with guns and that's why the good guy needs his firearms, but thankfully It's not that way in the UK and Europe, and to hear about someone who's been shot and killed in my country of Wales in the UK is a very rare event indeed, and my country as a population of three million, and Europe as a population of 739 million, so I would be asking big questions as to why America as got such a high murder and crime rate with guns.?

quite correct, they banned handguns in the uk after dunblane as a knee jerk reaction, two years after the ban gun crime had gone up by 40% it rose to 65% within 6 years.
all the ban did was take away guns from the good guys and destroy there sport.
i am lucky enough to live on the isle of man and part of the british isles but not the uk,we have our own laws and are allowed handguns for target shooting only,i shoot a lot whether it be target or hunting i dont mind,i have handguns rifles and shotguns and could not imadgine not owning them

Thanked: 79Hi Jamie,
Thanks for the straightforward post. Riding to hounds has always fascinated me, but I suppose as a tradition, it's also going the way of the dodo :-(.
Please know that even though I'm one of these crazy, gun-toting Americans, I hear you and agree that in a truly civilized society, there would be no need for interpersonal violence, and therefore no need for defensive weapons. I don't know about the UK, but Sadly, I can tell you that our society here in the US is only partially civilized, and in certain areas contains elements that will kill you just as soon as look at you. Over here, owning, training with and carrying a gun for defensive purposes is definitely not a bad idea ;-)
