How many of you drive stick?

I've put about 70,000 miles on my '99 Chevy Blazer. It is a two door with a five-speed. Apparently it was ordered special when it was new. It has no cruise, crank windows, 4wd, and four wheel disc brakes.

I'm never ever ever getting rid of this truck. Ever. I've told my wife that the day I get rid of it she will get a call to come pick me up on the side of the road and bring the title. Leave the dang thing on the side of the road with a signed title in the glovebox. I'm aiming for 300,000 miles.

On a related note, so many people these days can't drive a stick. I've made my 16 year old learn. My girls will learn when it's time.

I remember the first time I learned my (then future) wife could drive a manual trans. Strangely a turn-on. Don't read into that too much, boys.

Every car/truck I've had since 1983 has had a stick, I don't like to drive anything else.

My parents taught me so that I could drive anything. I feel I get a tad better gas mileage and it's more enjoyable to me.

i drove stick for the first 10 years after i got my license (20 years ago),living in a city built on a mountainside. the problem is that the local market mimics the US in that over 90% of the cars sold here are auto trans. that means 2nd hand stick shifts are rare and hard to get,so my last few cars were autos. still drive stick whenever I'm back in army reserves (say 3 weeks a year).lately stick shifts have started to make a comeback since gas got to about 8 $ a gallon so i hope my next car will be a man's car again . at least tiptronics let you set the gear you want when you want it, even if the change itself is automatic. the first thing i do when i get a tiptronics car is shift to " manual" mode.

After knowing my future wife for a while, we arranged to meet for a dinner date. As we ate, I couldn't stop getting distracted by her helmet on the floor. When we agreed to go to a movie after, her speeding off on her bike was insanely hot! The fact that when I got to the show and she was already in line with tons of people behind her... I asked her if she would like me to put her helmet in my car.

As I walked to the car I knew she was the one :). Yup - I get it!


*EDIT* It didn't hurt that she didn't even think twice about buying the tickets either :).
