I guess the answer is no. Too bad though they were amongst some of the finest production bolt action sporting rifle ever made.

Never had a small ring Brno. I tried to wear out a WWII Brno Mod 98. Ran a couple K of delinked 8MM machine gun ammo through one back in the 60's. It just kept grinning and going.

Only small ring I have any experience with is a Mexican small ring 98 that I had re-barreled to .257 Roberts. It is a sweet heart.

I hear a ton of good things about that .257 Roberts Wullie. To this day though I have yet to shoot one... or even see one. I like the .257 (on paper anyway) - what did you like or dislike about it.

    Wullie

Never had a 257 Roberts chambered rifle. Closest I had to that was a small ring Brno in 6.5x57 Mauser. My favourite was a small ring in 7x57 Mauser shooting 139 gr Hornaday spire point boat tails @ 2900 fps. It was as light as a Model 70 feather weight and all metal and wood, no plastics or alloys. I'll have to dig one out and post a photo.

I don't dislike anything about the load other than the price of new ammo these days. It a great load for just about everything N America has to offer. Might be iffy for elk unless you damn sure know your capabilities.

My two favorite loads are 6.5X55 Swede and 7X57 Mauser.

Little known fact about the 6.5X55 is that with the 139/140 grain bullets, it has more energy past 600 yds than a 7.62 Nato............................

Less recoil up front and more spank if you want to reach out and touch something.

The venerable old 7MM Mauser is plow horse and will do anything you want it too.

I guess my 3rd choice is the old '06.

I've owned and shot over a thousand rifles in WILDLY varied assortment of calibers from small to HUGE. Everything is a trade off. Now that I'm 60 years old with arthritis in my wrists and shoulders, I don't care for getting stomped by the bigger, faster, louder stuff. Hurts too much. That 257 doesn''t hurt a bit to shoot, nor does my Swede. THe 7MM and the '06 are a bit less pleasant. BUT, they are my "go to" zombie repulsion" devices that I happen to have a large amount of fodder for.

Oh man I have started to reply a few times and then restarted lol. "Caliber wars" is a pass-time for me lol. On paper my favorites are from low to high:

    .204 Ruger
    .260 or .260/anything
.444 and .450 Marlin for thumpers.

    28 GA

Those are my favorites, but I think a .243, a 30-30, and a 12Ga would do me lol.
