Case in point

Today the wife and I were shopping for boots to replace my 5 year old Uggs (Made in Austalia) they still have life left but are looking a bit ruff to wear out..

Go to the Ugg store, all the new Uggs are made in China, Glen is now looking at Emu since they are still Made in Australia, I don't mind paying real money for a good boot, but not for a name that is made in the same plant as the Walmart boots ... you can feel the difference in my old boots to the new ones the quality is just no longer there

Rich americans are often hated by the poor and those who wish to help the poor. There seems to be a desire to tax them at an unfair level. Fair is when every man plays by the same rules, regardless of income.

Jeff - the idea that taxing the rich more is somehow unfair is an illusion. If I make $2.00 and you tax me $1.00, and you make $200.00 and are taxed $1.00... do you think that is fair? If you make hand over fist, and have enough cash to fly a chopper to go to the can, do you think it's unfair to ask that individual to pay a little more so that his staff can have healthcare?

Trickle down economics where the rich provide incomes to the rest is a pipe dream - for Americans. That's a developing nations theory - not one that apply's to Americans anymore. When things become large here - large manufacturing jobs are sent overseas. America is a service economy and one that's now based off the back of education. Things have changed and American's in my humble opinion need to see things differently.

That IS NOT to say we all have to become a bunch or raging socialists, but Americans do need to wake up to the fact that the rich do not have their best interests at heart, and that the American Government... the very government who is bought and sold by large contributions will not come to the rescue. Even Democrats BTW.

We here in America, I believe are in for a rude awakening. We need to drop those attitudes that we once thought were clear like trickle down, and if you are poor it's your fault. Moreover, that greed at the expense of your fellow American is the American way has all but killed the American dream.

We have traditionally been very bad at looking outside our boarders because we didn't care. We didn't need to. We were the big boys and all came to us... no longer. We need to start looking macro and not micro.

^^ this is the perfect example of a man looking macro! ^^ It's awesome! But it may be a little too late really. I note there were no substitute goods that were made in America. Nope - those days are gone.

Same reason when the time comes to replace my five-year-old Blundstones, I'll be checking that they too are still made as well as they were five years ago. Some things are too important to let the quality slide. Sorry to hear that has happened with Uggs. Or have they...? For all those who think unions are obsolete and no longer needed because these are modern times and companies really care about their employees and there is plenty of Govt regulation. You fellas are like the people at the rail of the Titanic as it's sinking watching other passengers jump into the water and sink and thinking that's funny not realizing in another hour or so that will be you.

Just look around you and tell me working conditions re pay and benefits are not decreasing. Govt regs can be ignored based on the party in power and will of the administration.

If you are worried about completion why not immediately cut the pay of all workers by 50% and push the minimum wage back to one dollar an hour like I earned in the 1960s. I'd bet corporations would leave China in droves.

Also, if the big shots in a company get to negotiate a contract with the outfit why can't the lowly workers?
