Was watching "How the States got their Shapes" on A&E I think it was, the other day - gold played a big part out in these parts lol.

According to the show, when they discovered gold in western Kansas, they split the state apart and called the Western part Colorado!!

    Wow hey .

Lived here for 23 years, never knew that. I haven't seen any of the gold rush shows but something like American Diggers would be awesome as well.

I love the idea of panning for Gold! I've been watching Gold Rush and Jungle Gold, just looks like an adventure. If I was single and had no kids I'd move west and give it a try (not much gold here in Jersey ).

    Good luck!

I have kids -> hence, I only ever half hear what's said on the t.v., but I am quite sure that was the bottom line.

Does anyone have a link as to how to get started "panning." I wouldn't even know where to get started .

You want to know how? I'll tell you. First you go to the library and you research areas where gold has been found. Then you buy a gold pan and then you practice, practice, practice how to use it. (it's not that easy). Then you go to your stream and you start going through the gravel. it's that easy. if you want more involvement you can build a sluice and process larger amounts of gravel and they have all kinds of variations with just water operated and shakers and all that. Maybe you want to use high pressure water hoses to blast apart a hillside looking for gold or tunnel into a mountain.

The chances of finding something are slim and of coming out ahead of equipment and expenses slimmer still. Most areas of easy gold have been picked over in this country many many years ago. Go to Brazil or South Africa for better chances.

Best yet? Find a way to extract gold from sea water that's where most of the gold is. if you could invent an economically viable process you'd be the richest man in the world. Most gold mines have a gold content of 1% especially some of these really big digs in the U.S and Canada.

Oh man, you don't want to do that! The Pale Rider will come and get ya!

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.
