I have an old .45 parts gun from the 2nd world war, she shoots good but ugly as heck(reminds me of an old girlfriend), durocoat may bring up the value, not that I would sell this one.

    To answer both at once.
    It depends... lol
If it is a rare colectable then it would prob hurt the resale value as vintage firearm collectors want it original. Even 50 percent of the original finish is better then a new blue/black job. For example, the first Colt 1911 had two original prototypes one is at the Factory exhibit and just white steel. If by some chance you found the other and blued it.... you would have taken a priceless firearm and made it less so.
Now If I take say a Rem 700 in 308 and shoot it well and give a nice cammo finish to it and all the other components, it now may double in value. All depends on what the buyer wants...
That being said most 1911 are not rare.

Just a quick update SWMBO and I are finishing up moving into the new house so it will be a bit. The shave den is almost done and I'm moving the tools over as I'm able. Almost done making the new spray booth. The compressor lines are run. Now If I can have a few hours without honey do's I will be able to start shooting paint again. :-)

It's a polymer based paint that has fantastic hardness and elasticity. It gets tougher with age and when applied correctly will prevent rust to a firearm or some piece of metal. IMHO it functions in giving my weapons and outdoor gear protection from rust and scratching that a normal finish can't. Plus it is in many colors that can be at the least used to tone down the black color or used to camo things.
It's not perfect and will not allow you to pull it behind a truck on a gravel road but it will be better then the one it comes with.

I wish I had picked up on this thread earlier I just got back mid last week from the Woodlands doing training on our new BI system at Global Shop.

Hit a few of the Papa places (great crawdad platter) and Saltlick, phenomenal 24oz rib eye done black and blue.

If you head into doing it on the side I have a slide and misc. components from an XD I want to get done in the brushed stainless color I want done.

I wonder how durcoat effects barrel hamronics? I guess as long as you it doesn't hit stock to barrel, you are good? Or, would that paint affent a stainless barrel?... Hmmm..
