    Default Chess players

I suppose this is the appropriate forum for this post so, on that assumption, I'll continue:

I have recently become enamored by the game of chess. After playing a few games against the computer an the lowest setting (of which I only won one). I'm beginning to think that this game may actually require some thought. I was just wondering if any of our members play chess and may be willing to coach/mentor some others in picking up the game. I know I could use some help here.

I have read a lot on openings and strategies and tactics and etc.... but I'm one of those that, until I put it to use, I just can't understand it so I suppose the point of this post is:

Can anyone help me learn to play chess?

Hey there........I wish you the best. I stink at chess, but have a nice decent travel set in my apartment for just in case a guest who plays should come round. It is definitely a thinking game. I used to hate it because I unfortunately played with some very arrogant players way back in the day who delighted in making me easy prey. Keep it humble, keep it friendly and enjoy the long game. I truly believe this is a great game for rainy days. Yer from Alabama I see ? I love the south.(got some good friends back in Arkansas)..great food, intriguing forests (hate the ticks though)love the southern hospitality ! Cheers !

Just signed up with letsplaychess.com and it seems like a good site. Also, 365chess.com lets you play with various openings. Still, nothing like a good 'ole hands on instructor.

I have enjoyed the fine game of chess ever since I joined a club at the age of 7.
Sadly, I still suck at it, but I do find it very relaxing to play a game every now and then.
Given the fact that the current number one in the world, and the highest rated player ever, is Norwegian (Magnus Carlsen), the game has increased enormously in popularity here.

Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

They are average sites, check out the one i pointed to if you really want to learn, you play against real people. Another good way to learn is a chess board with in built computer, that is how all my children learned to play. Birnadino, i have always found chess incredibly intense.

I've played since i was kid but i'm not so good in it. Used to play a lot with my son and daughter and they really become much better than me. Understanding the benefits of different openings used to be interesting, as well as reading about the moves of famous genius players (not that i ever did understand so much ).

I've tried against computer software and some online gaming but those were not my thing. I rather like to play ftf with the real human. Nowadays i play every now and than, when home with wife and also at work with mates.

As said, i've never been much interested in online gaming, whatever the game. Maybe i'm too old or then i just missed few genes. Whatever the game, facing real opponents is sort of a salt of any game, be it cards, chess, checkers or even some old board strategy game.

I agree, but finding an opponent is the problem in this day and age. I play online against an old friend i used to play against 30 years ago, we live far apart, but still get together and fight it out, the internet makes it possible.
