Have always made alot of scratch built furniture, wanted to try my hand at Marquetry work a few weeks back, this is not for me
Takes a keen eye and a steady hand which at my age both are fading.to much layout and wood matching work.
Did this on a honduran mahog chest I made 30 yrs ago,my first and last attempt.

My jobs are on the ocean and take a lot of my time. When I'm at home I like to make small wood boxes and small pieces of furniture. There is a lot of Zen time in sanding and rubbing finishes.

So... I started looking into solo seats and they are expensive... Looked into bare seat pans and decided I'd take a shot at making one. I like the look, and I like the idea of sitting lower down on the bike.

I started with an acrylic prototype that sat under the front tab and on the frame. I figured I'd try that, which would be as rough as possible, to see how it was. Quite tolerable, so I went ahead with the steel. Now I'm running the seat on the front tab, off the frame, and the vibrations are way less intense. It has the unfortunate side effect of wobbling, so I need to deal with that.

Here's an in progress shot, as it is now. I still need to round out the back, and then I'm thinking I'll acid etch it for a nice patina. Might clean up the sides a little, too.
