    Default Other DIY's

I think part of the reason that straights appeal to me is that I like to do things myself. With straights, it started with the honing. Then light cleaning. Then the buffer. Then making swapping scales. Then making scales. Now I am self sufficient for all I care to do.

But what else have you all gotten into?

My most recent is my motorcycle. I bought it from... lets just say a family member, to keep things simple. I had it out in the driveway one day, and decided to see what I could figure out. Thus far I have removed a bunch of bolt on parts (luggage rack, passenger back rest, windshield) and also bought, fitted, painted, and installed a bigger gas tank.

Looking good Dylan, that backrest had to go!
I have a couple diy hobbies. When I see the pricetag of something I like, I will justify making my own, even if the whole setup costs the same as a store bought. Sometimes I win and other times I lose.
Here is a kydex holster I made for my tokarev pistol.

yeah, i like making stuff too. it probably cost more to build this than buying one new, but that's not really the point. 8" f6 dobsonian.Name: IMG_3068.gif

Making my own tools and small power equipment has long been a hobby for me. Doing light machine work in my basement for friends gives me pleasure. Roasting coffees and sharing them is fun. I also do some CAD /CAM things for friends. Of course antiquing needs no introduction!

Anyone know if there is a cluster with a speedo and a mount? or any ideas on building one? This seems a touch inelegant to me (though it worked very well)...

I am in the process of converting a small mill to CNC. It's still going to be pretty much a tool for razors.

As soon as that's done I am going to be looking for a small engine lathe to convert to CNC.

Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.

Oh and I make beer. For 20 years I've been doing it small scale, but I'm going to sell my Road Runner and convert the garage into a beer/mead brewery and also going to try my hand at distilling.

Finished making and installing my mounting plate today, though I still need to epoxy the GPS base to my mounting plate.

    Very nice!

Not quite centred? Maybe needs to be moved to the left slightly...

    Cheers, Sunbird
