I'd like to think you care. Please don't tell me you don't and hurt me.

How far away from sitting on the floor rocking backwards and forwards whilst crying and eating chocolate and listening to the cure and Leonard cohen are you?
Of course I care, how could I fail to when you make me chuckle so often. Don't feel picked on, though in fairness I think some sport has been made from this. If we've scarred you there should be a psychologist at your workplace who could help you through it:-), I certainly wouldn't look to us lot based on the "help" we've been so far.

What kind of outfit and boots does one wear for that?

Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.

Obviously you get to wear the boots, so get what would fit your lifestyle and temperament - working in prison is not narrowing it enough. As you no doubt have noticed even in the same workplace some people can pull off styles that others just can't.

The boots I wear most are ankle boots by cole haan. I've got them in distressed leather and bicolor (very dark grey/brown toecaps) as that fits my current work and style best. It's still on the dressy side (the last has a fairly refined look, goodyear welted leather soles), so I don't look like the usual geek in dockers and sketchers, but it's not suit and tie level. I may be able to pull it off with a single pleated trousers, but I don't think I've tried yet
Yes they were fairly expensive (MSRP was in the 500 level but in US you get sales almost all the time), but I expect to end up wearing them for a decade or more even with the bi-color.

I don't have a suit level boots since I'll virtually never wear them given the 3-4 pairs of suit level shoes I've got (ferragamo for zegna xxx, ae cambridge in shell, and such) and how rarely I dress up, but if that changes I'll probably splurge and get something in shell

BTW I generally don't like corrected grain (that pebble texture) but as I said, it's you who's going to wear them
The quality with Alfred Sargent should be there, so pick the style that would suit you for a long, long time
You need to explain some stuff, it's not translating into Aussie well:

    dockers and sketchers
    corrected grain

I like the sound of your Cole Haan boots, esp the idea of the contrasting toe cap. That's one thing I like about the Alfred Sargent boots; the toe cap. I never wear a tie, I have worn pleated trousers, and I'd prefer stitched welts (I think the Sargent boots are not, though one site did offer them with leather soles).

Did you note the 'corrected grain' appears to be only on the 'top' part? I like the contrast. My H by Hudson 'Herman' boots have some contrast in the leather. Actually, if I could get those in brown I probably would (though the Sargent ones are very appealing) but they don't make them any more. H Hudson 'Smyth brown' is a nice boot, but they don't deliver to Au and the shop I got the H Hudson Hermans from doesn't stock the brand any more.

BTW (everyone), I came across the 'The Gentlemen's Gazette' a while ago, and subscribed to the newsletter. It's quite good reading and includes quite interesting fashion advice and articles. Very European in styling, and I'm not bold enough (or rich enough) to pull off the styles, but it's a good read. It's here:

Actually, had a look at the Cole Haan site, and it seems all they have is 'Cukka' boots. Not sure I like their shoe styles either...

Um, not far really, but that's a very general thing.

Leonard is 'camping in the rain' stuff normally and I love The Cure. The boys always say "We're not going to stand by the fire in the rain while you drink beer and smoke and listen to that Leonard guy again are we?"

I'm glad I make you chuckle because you crack me up too.

I love the sport. This is actually (forgive me for saying) turning in to a very entertaining thread. I almost feel the end result (before the Thread Closed sign goes up) should be a photo of me adorned in tan boots, jeans, waistcoat, fine cotton shirt, cufflinks, Taser (to ward off the rampaging prisoners) and maybe a tweed cap but you're not going to get it.

    Strangely that doesn't surprise me.
