[QUOTE=carlmaloschneider;1183752]So, finally got the FIRST pair of boots I'm buying, the 'Selected' brand from Portugal. I polished them up using THREE different polishes, neutral, mid tan and dark tan. They came out a little darker but I quite like that. I do want to retain a 'patchy' or 'patinated' look if I can though. On the Gentlman's Emhporium newsletter site that I subscribe to they were talking of the possibility of 'patination' of brown boots and shoes as opposed to black.

These were on special in the end at 110 bucks. Just a TAD too big, but I put a few balls of cotton wool in the toes and boots slightly too big are better than slightly too small. Now, though, I'm fretting about what size to buy for the better quality boots I'm also looking at getting. The LAST pair of boots I got were from Portugal and THEY were a 42 and THESE are also from Portugal and a size 42 but slightly larger...
Yeah and a size 10 dress from the 50's isnt a size 10 by modern standards, but I digress, perhaps the other boots you had were narrower or something like that, or.you got stitched up and the wrong size label had been put in, looking at the weather your way thick socks would be good anyway. Or you could just keep your muesli in there. :-)
I got quite a nice patina on my work boots, I had been polishing the bejesus out of.them for a out 5 months, and o decided it was time.to strip back the old polish, so after a couple of cans of contact cleaner had been used the old polish was gone, and when I repolished them they were kinda patchy in a nice way, I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND using something as harsh as contact cleaner on your boots (esp if you are wearing them, my feet were burning for the rest ofthe day).
    Happy booting.

Well there are few things finer in life than a nice pair of boots.

Speaking of which, I've always fancied myself in a pair of RM equestrian:

Carl, how about these? You could put your black polish on them and see what happens.

If I had shoes that Shiney I would stay up all night and stand under lights just so I could see them glinting at me.

or these could be the go, I have a pixie costume you could borrow to go with them, the top is all felt so you'd be really warm, and if you really want to you could turn the cuffs back and wear cuff links with it.

Or maybe this, though you wouldn't be able to drive anywhere, or in fact show your face in public, these are quite tame, but the really good ones were on a slightly racy picture.
