Day 1
Finally use a 5160 piece
I think 6mm thickness is too much, so think hammer it to 4 mm, what do you think?
two ideas over the same blank

I think you should leave it at 6 mm. The ratio for width - thickness should be between 3.5 - 1 and 4 - 1. If you go thinner, the honing angle will be too shallow, leading to a more fragile edge that is more difficult to hone, and your razor will quickly develop wide bevels.
A razor is not a knife, and this is the most common mistake made by knifemakers who make their first razor. A razor is thicker than a knife. 4-1 is the flattest you should go.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

I am not an expert on them. I prefer western grind. I've handled only a couple kamisori. From what I can tell, the ones I've held had that ration too. Of course, because the grind is different, that doesn't mean that the spine is still 6 mm thick. I think it would be more correct to say that the 4:1 ratio is valid in the sense that in order to have a good geometry, you use a bar of stock that is 4:1 to create the kamisori that fits inside that bar.
Was that understandable or did I sound like gibberish?Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.
