    Default workin on some rescales.....

here are a couple sets of scales roughed out for some rescales im doing. the green are green and yellow dyed and stabilized maple burl with black g10 liners going on a Ralf Aust. the brown are stabilized spalted maple with pearl acrylic faux bolsters, also with black g10 liners. ill take pics of the process for getting the bolsters straight and lined up evenly on front and back scales when i make the next set in case anyone is like me and scratches their head a bit with simple things sometimes

the spalted maple burl has some voids tht will need to be filled otherwise both sets have come out decent.

    Love them burls
Is the liner a must due to brittle wood or just for the fun of it ?

i had one set of the darker snap on me just trying to rough profile them at them grinder before i got to epoxy them to the g10 liners. the g10 sure provides a solid base for the spalted burl. the green burl is not as fragile but the nature of burl being grain direction change happening all over the place i dont want to risk having weak points where the pin holes are. im thinking of adding thin g10 liners (.030") to all wood scales i make in the future just for added insurance they will last a longer duration than otherwise.

The successful combination of colors. I would like to look at the razor with a handle in the assembly.

Although liners do help they are no guarantee that the wood will not split - I know this from experience of using veneer as a liner. I had two sets split and not even at the pivot hole so I'm reluctant to use burl now.

My service is good, fast and cheap. Select any two and discount the third.
