Thanked: 12Input, Comments on Razor build
I am fairly new to this forum and like to mostly read about what the world of Straight Razors and current events regarding the such. I have for just a little while now have been making razor. I have been using mostly 01 just because of the economical factor the the fact that I went into it knowing that there was going to be just a small (sarcastic) learning curve. After working preforming restorations and scale fabrication for sometime now and really studying the geometry of razor I just had to try to make one. I also have been ready a lot but nothing in my opinion is as important as comments and feedback from others. I am posting a razor that I just finished. It was fabricated from Damascus steel (1095 & 15N20). It is 11/16 with a Spanish point laid in red horn scales. It really shaves nice and holds its edge well. I have found that the area in which I have to most problem in making a straight razor is the heel, particularly keeping it even. I am open to any feedback that is available about methods that could help with this or any input or advice for that matter!. Thanks!!

Thanked: 12Yeah I have sold some restorations and such on there. I sell mostly on etsy though as ebay sometimes frustrates me with the amount of fees charges. I am working on getting a website up and going but time just not permit currently. Thanks for the compliment! I really appreciate it!

Thanked: 2591The tang looks off to me, too narrow in my opinion. When designing razors function should come before form.

Thanked: 12Yeah the tang was a last minute fix, not a planned look. It functions fine, had there not been a mishap it wouldn't have that stepped down aspect to the tang. Thanks for the input!

Thanked: 1936It looks just fine, but how does it handle, shave, and hold an edge...that's the important part. Send one out for independent review from a shaving veteran for about 30 shaves.

I just want to add the Scott's (shooter74743) s remark is not out of the ordinary here. Many razor makers here do a pass around of their first razors to experienced shavers, or sell their first ones at material cost just to get them out there and get constructive feedback. Looks are important, but unless it shaves well and handles well, it might as well be a letter opener. Getting some feedback from experienced shavers really helps. It did for me.

Nice work on the plunge cut/stabilizer area and the blade evenness. I like the Spanish point too! Makes my earlobes cringe. Spikes and Spanish points, heck, even square points, seem to get me where my burns meet the ear. Sure look cool though.
