RSO #2 & a Cherry popper knife
G’day all,
finally got my grinder finished off, painted (if I could call it that), back together and up and running last week.
So ground up a straight & I got to pop my knife making cherry on the weekend as well and came up with these
Went free hand stock removal, used my tool rest for support only
Both the Str8 & blade are from 1095 30*5mm flat bar
The str8 is 3/4” with a ¾ hollow grind I think
Rough ground to 120 grit leaving about 1.5mm on the blade edge
Annealed & Heat treated in my mini gas forge with Thermocouple
800° then into 70° Canola oil (got a nice loose carbon coating)
Tempered at 230° for 2 x 1 hours cycles in the oven
Post HT Final ground from 120 to 1500 grit & to about 3 thou at the edge
Then bevel set on the Nani SS 1k using no tape to check for high points etc then some final edge clean up
Not completely happy with the final outcome as the grind kept growing at the tang & got to close to the pivot for what I wanted.
So only made some quick acrylic scales for it.
So now awaiting a full honing then when I do some other blades waiting to get touched up, then the shave test can follow;
The knife is about 240mm over all with Burdekin Plum scales with brass 3mm pins & fillets quite well now
Thanks for looking
