With my 11.8 inch wheel your right, the grind is not enough deep on that thickness and the honing time is quitly long
I forgot that it was you I sent that to before.
I did the same thing when I started making razors. The steel was from an old file and to thin but it was very good practice!

, i prefer to have two time the information 
. It's a good practice, i'm far to have perfect result now, but with the time, i'm sure that will become better
