You get a longer hang time!
I see your point....faster results, too. You might even be able to cull a finger or two.

Thanks for the responses! I see we all have kept our sense of Humor too! Actually I was asking because I saw a post about the Gold Dollar Razors and it said to look for razors culled by two certain members here at SRP. I have several GD's and want to put new scales on them and sell them here but only if it won't cause any problems. I've got some good wood to make some scales, so I'm looking forward to getting back to the shop! I've been away since April when I got very sick and ended up in the Hospital with Pancreatitis. I was in the shop when it struck and have stayed away since.

OK, in this instance culling would be like culling a herd of cattle. You eliminate the poorer animals to improve the quality of the rest of the herd. Gold Dollars come in a variety of conditions, with the most prominent being bent spines/tangs and shoulders that extend too far to the edge making honing difficult. The culled razors would be the remaining ones that either have passed the selection process or have been corrected.

You can cull your own Gold dollars. If you can re-scale the blade without trouble, then the spine/tang probably is not bent. If you can hone the razor without trouble, then the shoulder might be okay--though I think they could all benefit from a little grinding in order to prevent future trouble.

Since you've posted again, I hope that means you're doing better!

it's also a lobster with one claw. if you ever get served one and ask the waiter what happened, and he says it was in a fight, you get to push the plate away and say, bring me the winner.
