I love the shape of the thumb notch and tang on the razor that is in the bottom of the picture. The proportions and shape make it look like it grew that way, it just looks right to me.

Thanked: 1936Guys, my head has swollen so much that I was hardly able to put on an undershirt this morning! The nod of appreciation from such well respected craftsmen means a lot to me. Sure, I am pround of how they have and are turning out, but if it weren't for you guys I wouldn't have been inspired to make them or more than likely even been able to figure out how to make a razor. I guess every old dog gets a pat on the head once and a while...

Shooter, you are making me envious! Owning such a razor would be wonderful but is surpassed by your fabricating it!
Please keep up the great work!

Thanked: 2209That is impressive work especially with the tools you have available.
I do hope that you will continue to make razors. The long tangs are a nice touch.Randolph Tuttle, a SRP Mentor for residents of Minnesota & western Wisconsin

Thanked: 1936First shave was a let down. Before I say more, I was trying a new stone for my finishing. I picked up one of those new mueller stones, lapped it, and gave the batch of razors a finishing pass. Razors had been on a progression of shapton glasstones of 1,4,8,16K. On the 16K I only go between 8-12 x strokes. I then gave the mueller a whirl with 20 x strokes, first 10 with a slurry, then the last 10 without. Stone didn't feel smooth with the razors and the shave was one of those that you start a first pass wtg & stop after a couple inches. I rehoned the batch my normal way of the same progression from the start & finished with 50 x's on my CF. Shave was simply awesome & I look forward to using it for the rest of the week before I go back to my normal rotation. I've never had a razor that I felt like I had so much control over.
Thanks again to you all, without your advice and inspirations I wouldn't have even tried to do this.Southeastern Oklahoma/Northeastern Texas helper. Please don't hesitate to contact me.

Thanked: 4Good job!
BTW Its easy to build an etcher to use for adding your mark to the blade. You can get a sheet of stencils (Knifemaker Stencil) made for you about $45 that will last your for years.
