Hello from Pisa!
Hi everybody,
my name is Federico, Kiko for friends, and I'm a fan of knives and sharp instruments, that I build for pleasure. You can see some past works here kiko-knives
I'm a newb of razors and shaving techniques but after reading some posts I'm now totally in love with therse little sharp objects.
I'll try to build my own, without knowing anithing about, but I'll consider it just a start point.
These are just some pictures of my first attenpt:
Bye bye,
Kiko.

Maybe, with lots of C4.... Bui I like it that way.
@Maxi: perhaps this isn't the right place anyway, it's D2 tool steel, hardened to approx 60 or 61hrc (I'll test hardness soon) taking care to grain growth, and triple tempered.
Blade widht is about 6/8 of an inch and the thickness is now... hmmm... approx 4,6mm.
I have worked it roughly with a 10" wheel and then more accurately with a 3" wheel.
Now the thickness at the edge is about 0,1mm (0,004").
I still have to polish the blade because now it's only roughly belt-sanded to an 800grit.
For the handle I'm preparing g10 scales.
That's all, I don't know if I'm going in the right direction because I don't know anything about razors.
Can anyone give me some help?

Welcome to SRP ,Kiko.
Have moved your thread to the Forge forum.
Enjoy your stay. The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Welcome to SRP
That is a good looking blade.
I would suggest getting a vintage razor and using it so you have a base line of what a razor should preform like.

Thank You.
Yes, probably I should get a real razor first... but I'm tremendously stubborn. But I think that sooner or later I'll buy it.
Yesterday night, back from work, I made a little overgrind to the ricasso ,moving it a little more torward the tang. Leaving this thing You call a little stabilizer (if it's so).
I have also polished the blade using finer grits, and cork and chrome oxyde. D2, hardened so high, is very very very difficult to mirror-polish.
I have also made a pair of Zebrano slabs and the little Ebony wedge. Now is curing with epoxy.
I don't know if this is right, I only know how to make knives... and now I understand that they are quite different.
