Wouldn't it make sense then to just raise your other anvil by 3"?
Or if you like doing rough work that low, couldn't you just make a swage block of 3" thick?Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

There is no logic involved in the matter. I wanted a post anvil (it turns out I really like the small surface). I have this sickness where I need to mess about in the shop, but I can quit any time.

Thanked: 2209Hey Charlie, what are the approx dimensions of the top of the anvil? 2"x3", 3"x3" ?
Do you have any use for a 5" leg vise?Randolph Tuttle, a SRP Mentor for residents of Minnesota & western Wisconsin

I could use something like that to hold my cigars while I'm stropping.

Instead of using a hot cut tool in a hardy hole, you could also use a chisel. That's what I do atm.
I haven't gotten around to making hardies just yet (currently making tongs) so I just place my workpiece on the anvil, and hammer until it is nearly through. Not as ideal as a hardy, but quicker than a disc grinder.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.
