Thanked: 995There is no reason to repeat the thermal cycling, just austenitize and quench and repeat your tempering cycle at say 150C-300F this time. If it's too hard, not bronze, then up a few degrees for an hour and recheck. Much easier to do that repeating the hardness cycles. You know where you don't want to be for 200C so somewhere between is the sweet spot for this steel.
Another method of equalizing ovens like this is to use a sand tray or the like. It can reduce some of the effects of disparate temperatures in the same oven.

Thanked: 1072Ah, Mike. your response came a couple of hours too late.
I went ahead and did 3 more thermal cycles before quenching. Nevermind, I assume it cant hurt.
Given that this is still only my third razor, I'm happy to get the extra practice.
I had more success this time, my careless arrangement of the oven really messed things up last time.
I placed the temperature gauge right next to the razor on a wire rack with the blade wrapped up in foil at 190 C or 375 F.
The color looks better this time. Might need to go a little hotter if anything, but I might just grind and see how it hones how it is.
Thanks
