Count me in, Maybe we could Evan do razor restoration or, what to look for, (and not) on e-bay. Maybe we could get them as a sponsor, we spend allot of money there.

This is just my $.02, but if there's going to be a real "get-together"... you know, one where I have to take a couple days vacation, drop $600 on an airline ticket and $500 for a motel room, meals, etc. then I think we need to be thinking about more than just a couple demos on shaving (or honing or whatever) some Saturday afternoon in someone's back yard.
We need someone to take the lead in organizing it. Some of us have to volunteer to help. We need to decide when, where, and what the agenda is. There will be some funding issues to resolve. Etc. Otherwise, we're just jawing.
Colleen mentioned a bunch of ideas. We all know there are lots of other interests in the group... motorcycles, guns, pen restoration, photography, computers, woodworking, knifemaking, etc., etc., etc.... adding some of these secondary topics to the agenda will help garner support. Many will have spouses and kids along... they will need some activities, too.
Common guys, brainstorm!!! ...- a workshop on how to take better pictures
- how to use a snipe program on ebay
- a "ride" for those that attend on their motorcycle
- have a pen restorer demo celluloid repair techniques
- demo on using CA as a wood finish
- trip to a local outlet mall for the spouses
- movie or zoo outing for the kids
- raffles
- something having to do with other forms of wet shaving
- etc.
- etc.
- etc.

Thanked: 0i totally agree, to make this work you need to combine at least 2-3 of these niche hobbies to put together the kind of crowd you need to make this work. to pay for the room, get deals on rooms and such the more people the lower the prices your going to get. combining the groups from SRP, SMF, B&B, fountainpennetwork.com, maybe.. basenotes.com or styleforum.com?? Hmmm... would be fun. if it was in NYC id definetly go.
peace,
B

Hey, if your on a forum then you aren't doing half bad haha!
Yeah, you are definitely going to have to make it a bit more broad then just straight razor users, though we would all know who the real focus would be on.
Anyway, I would hope it be kept from becoming two broad, like instead of just straight razors it would be "Classic Shaving Expo 08", though a better title haha. That way it is kept to shaving. This would include DEs and wet shaving as well. Certainly that is a broad enough crowd, at least I would think. You could get different vendors and contact different manufacturers. You could charge for booth space and this would help take off some of the cost to rent out a facility. When a location was nailed down, local barbers could be contacted about coming out and doing demos and shaving people. I mean golly, I could see this drawing a lot of men who are just curious. Not to mention a ton of barbers and what have you.
The key first would be to see what kind of interest there is, and then gauge from that interest what sort of size we are looking at. This could be done through the multiple forum as stated before. SMF and B&B. I'm sure there are quite a few more. Based upon that response you could pick a suitable location, though I would think someplace central US would be the most convenient as far as travel cost. I could see going to some place like, Wyoming or someplace. That isn't close to Arizona, but it is a hell of a lot closer than an east coast location. Sorry to you Canadian guys and European fellows. I really wouldn't know how to make it convenient for you guys other than having expos in your own countries or continents. Though if I could afford to do it, I would totally head to Germany for this haha. Anyway I know this sort of thing would take a lot of man power, but if you guys get something going, I would be happy to help out with it. Maybe I could offer my services as a web designer and help to make a site for the expo or something. Maybe design fliers for barber shops that you guys could print up locally. I am at you disposal as far as graphic design PR goes. I love doing this sort of stuff.Last edited by Kentriv; 02-16-2007 at 07:28 AM.

The Netherlands aren't very big on the ridiculus lawsuits either. It's pretty good to live in a country where people can practise medicine or dentistry without constant fear of being sued. I'll tell ya it makes the practitioners a lot less nervous.
On the show thing I'd be there......if you flew me in.

Shaving 101 - Classes
Seems like we're neighbors. I'm just north of Providence next to Worcester, MA. Your idea is a good one and I have thought of doing it but don't want to give up my weekends as I'm already busting my hump throughout the week. I believe you are right in that many people would love to try straight razor shaving and it's a good hands-on thing to try (as opposed to online classes).
I have been playing around with the idea of putting together a lecture-demo using PP slides and hands-on work with all of our toys. Hmmmm....
