Has the world gone mad!?
So I was at the 17th annual collectors show here in Hawaii, looking to see if I might be lucky enough to find a straight worth buying. My God! Have the people here gone mad? They wanted ludacris prices for straights that looked like... like it would take some major work to get back into shape. Am I out of line here? Do the antique shops else where charge $40+ for razors?

Guess they have caught on to the "trend" of straight razor shaving, then... Supply and demand, that sort of thing...

I can see the scenario before me. An antique dealer telling another: "You know, straight razors go for lots of money on eBay. There's a great interest in those things now" and the other guy goes: "Hmmm, I have a couple of those. Better raise the price on them..."
Knee jerk reaction? Not knowing the true worth of what they have?
Just speculation, on my part, of course.

could be, but some were asking for *gasp* 60 and 80 dollars a piece. I'm talking about seeing chips with the naked eye, bad shape. I was almost waiting for one of them to tell me about how much they "go for" on ebay. I mean, I'm far from an expert, but I watch ebay daily ("ebay's the devil, Bobby Buchet!") and know what they go for (Thank you Lynn for the good info on what to look for on your DVD...You are awesome )

It has to be a special razor that I will pay anywhere near that for it. To me most razors should be in the 40 to 50 dollar range. To my way of thinking anyone paying close to a 100 for a fixr uper is crazy.

So RichZ,
You are saying that in antique shops and shows, a decent price to pay is about 40 dollars or should it be lower (I wonder if I can pay in Canadian... )

40-50 Chilean pesos sounds about right Actually, if it's a fixer-upper, it shouldn't go above 20 unless it's truly a rare find and not one of those "it's extremely rare, a collectible, the edge's sharp" kind of deals

Whew...glad to hear it. I was worried that I had unrealistic expectations on the cost of a find. I really was shocked to find the prices they wanted, I was expecting to pay about 15-20 max.
