Have you decided what you're going to get? Photography is a hobby of mine, and I'd be glad to chip in my $0.02

No. I'm going hunting tomorrow. This is strictly a scouting mission. I won't settle on anything until I'm sure it's what I want.

In the meantime, feel free to make suggestions. Anything in the 200 - 300 dollar range.

Cool. I'll have to play around with it and post some sample shots.

If you want a smaller, portable camera, I'd recommend the Canon PowerShot SD600. The price at BHPhotoVideo.com is $216

It is a 6 megapixel camera, uses a SD card slot (Secure Digital), has a big LCD screen on the back to preview your pictures, and its made by Canon on of the most well trusted brands in the camera business. Its also tiny, so you can take it anywhere without having to lug around a big camera everywhere. (thats my complaint about having a huge DSLR camera, its too BIG)

The SD600 has a basic feature set, but for someone who just wants to take pictures of stuff it will do that very well.

Match that up with Picasa to manage and edit your digital photos, and you'll be shooting like a photo pro in no time.

It is reviewed very highly by CNet.com and it is in the low end of your price range.

I was useing a Fuji finepix 3000 up until vacation in Oct when the lens zoom ring decided it no longer wanted to be attached to the camera and threatened to take the lens assembly with it. It was fantastic (but it was a $600 camera new too)- held it's own against 4 and 5 MP cameras

My inlaws bought us a Samsung 170 (I think) pretty good camera, tho the image quality is not up to snuff for what I expected with it's specs. Stay away from Samsungs unless you do major research- as I found they have image quality less than fitting their technology.

We use a Kodak CX7430 and a Cannon (not sure the model) at work (we take hundreds of pics a day......) both give good stuff, and really easy to use.

They are all in the price range stated earlier.

A good camera in that price range would be Kodak ZX612.

I haven't shot any razors, but here are a couple of watch pictures as examples.

I use a Canon D 10 (which is a relatively old DSLR) with a Canon 100mm Macro lens. I think two of the keys to getting a workable picture are to get the lighting right, as someone pointed out, and by all means use a decent tripod. A lot of guys use a translucent white plastic wastebasket as a lightbox/diffuser. Put the razor on a nice background inside the wastebasket (lying on its side) and shine a couple of lights on it. Shoot from a tripod for stability. If you don't have a cable release, set the in camera timer.

My digital is a Canon A520. Reasoning its a Canon and uses two AA, so out juice no problem waiting for charge. It works for me.
