Sign me up! I started using a straight razor in Oct. 2001. It wasn't because I wanted a barber shave at home or was in a nostalgic mood, I didn't have any money to buy replacement blades anymore. My wife and I both worked for United Airlines as reservation agents and on Sept. 11, we had a nine month old daughter and my wife was about a month away from giving birth to our son. For the next three weeks, work really sucked, we had all these people calling in trying to get home, often out of money, hungry and with no money to get by, a thousand miles from home. It was sad to hear their stories and have no seats for them to fly home on. After we got everybody back home, United laid us all off, including me and my wife who was off on maternity leave anyway. Here I was, with a 10 month old daughter, a newborn son, laid off with no income and no razor blades. Well, I grew a beard. The neck really started aggrevated me, the beard hair would get caught in the threads collar of my shirt and whenever I turned my head, I'd pluck a hair. It hurt. So, I thought I would shave my neck and all I had was this old Spike straight razor. The Old Spike was my dad's and it was wore down pretty much and I didn't really know how to sharpen it, so those first shaves were pretty rough, but it took off some hair and it wasn't getting caught in my collar anymore.
I was out of work for about a year (six months if you count the part time job I had picking up used condoms off the ground with one of those grabby-hand things and cleaning toilets for the city of South Charleston's parks dept. until I got a decent job).
I can afford to buy a razor blade now, but I am still using the Spike. THe shaving is much better since I've figured out what a strop is for!
I could use a replacement for the old Spike, so definitely sign me up!

Thanked: 0I'd like to sign up, If I am eligible. I gave up the straight razor last summer and foolishly sold all of my stuff. I think it might be time for me to get back on the horse.

Thanked: 0Trying to sign up
How can I sign up for the give away, I couldnt see how to do it. just started with my straight edge hence the name"sorechops" felt ok at the time but after a while it looked like I shaved with a blow torch. I am determined to get it right, just hope I dont run out of face before I get the better of it.
