Thanked: 0Possibility of sharpening a dull razor?
I have 5 razor blades.
2 or flat out dull, couldn't cut butter.
2 or sharp, work really well for shaving. If I strop them when they need to be, they stay sharp.
1 is kinda in the middle, won't shave great but it can if need be.
Am I able to make those three sharp? If not the 2 dull ones, the one kinda sharp one?
This is the kind of blade I have:
(Funny thing, that razor has rust on it and it says rustless finish.)
Please help!Talar du svenska?

Anything can be sharpened. If they are as thin as most DE/SE blades you would need a holder that supported most of the blade. If they are as thick as the blade of a frameback a simple frame and handle contraption could be made.
What might be easier would be making/3d printing an adapter for the use of modern DE/halfDE/SE blades.

15yoWhoShaves,
When I was a bit desperate, I have re-honed the GEM SE razor blades by taping up the spine and honing them on a Spyderco Ultra Fine ceramic hone, followed by a strop on Crox dusted hard-leather paddle.
If your blades are reasonably thick, then you are certainly in with a chance to re-hone them
Best of luck !
Have fun
Best regards

It doesn't say rustless, rustless finish. it may have some plating on it. I doubt it was designed for sharpening.

Also there's more than one sort of stropping machine for blades such as this from BITD. I haven't used any, but I'd certainly be looking into one of those if i were in your shoes. Some may work better than others.
and also those curved DE-specific hones. Surely there's a "club/forum/section" that discusses these gizmos.
I'm a flat rocker.
WRT corrosion, look around and you'll find rusty "platinum" and "titanium" all sorts of wonders. (it is the plating)Last edited by WadePatton; 02-10-2014 at 01:22 AM.

Thanked: 0Sorry for the late reply, but in response to Phatman, the blade is REALLY thin. So yeah.. And if I understand correctly, for my purposes I should look into getting a hone?

Thanked: 0I don't want to get new ones if I don't have to, and I don't know where to buy razor blades made from 1928-1935.

15yoWhoShaves,
If the blade is thin like conventional DE blades, you would probably have to sandwich the blade between something stiffer - perhaps some thin plastic- leaving the edge showing. You could then tape the top of the blade and try stropping/honing like that
It is all good experimentation
Best of luck !
Have fun !

It looks like Feather single edge blades might work. Here is a video of one being loaded. If you have a similar model it may be the solution you need.
