Well here's the plan. I have have just bought a very old Greaves and Sons 7/8ths wedge I'd say circa 1850's in bone. I paid a little more than I intended but I won't have to do much to it. It's all original and in incredible shape for the age. After looking around and reading a lot of reviews plus all the good feedback I got from everyone here I'm going with nanowa 1k and 12k. Not only did I get a razor I liked I am saving money on the stones. I may change my mind again and go with the Shapton 1k but from what I have read pretty much everywhere the nanowa is a great stone for the money plus they come in a fixed stand. I'm going a little over what I wanted to pay but I have a nice Wostenholm I *XL half hollow or possibly a quarter hollow for sale and I am hoping to make up the difference there. I think with the spray and paste on the fabric following the 12k is a very nice way to finish. I think the nanowas are nice plus I won't have to soak them. I guess I just got my wedge earlier than planned but I feel that I got a very good deal!

I don't want to extend your indecision, but what do you need a 1k for? I think unless you're restoring razors you'll never use a 1k. I'd get just the Shapton 16k, or just the Naniwa 12k. You don't need to soak the Shapton stones either.

You haven't made it any more difficult. I got the money to buy all my equipment from buying, restoring, and selling razors. I want a 1k for bevel setting or speeding up the process after taking out chips on my Dmt. All the equipment I have bought thus far has been funded by this. I'm sorry I thought I had mentioned that at some point. I apologize for the confusion. I bought a wade and butcher to restore the other day and I have some amazing looking box elder that I plan to use for the scales making. I wish I knew a good place to buy the bullseye washers for wade and butcher... I know the box elder scales aren't original to the razor but I still wish I had the washers just for the w/b signature look.

Here's the Greaves & Sons I bought. It has an eagle etched on the blade. It's kinda hard to see but I always wanted a Greaves & Sons big ol' wedge. This is a 7/8ths near wedge and this guy is definitely old. I don't know much about the history other than dates of operation but I am going to try to find out more about it and the Sheaf Works.

Dont settle for just something, make sure you get what you want

If you buy the Dovo and its not really what you want then all you've done is put yourself X dollars further away from getting what you actually DO want, and you've got a blade you'll probably stop using as soon as you get what you're really after.

I'd get the stone as well, and then spring for the dream blade when its available again. Heck, you can always call the store up and ask them to hold one for you as soon as they have stock in, sorted hehe!

If your spending that much money make sure you're buying your first choice. Don't settle. If the rock is your first choice then get that!
