Thanked: 2Can't make up my mind
The title says it all! I am about to spend $300 at the first of*the month from money I made selling some razors I restored. I can't decide if I want to buy a new razor for myself or a new Shapton glass 16k stone. The razor I am looking at is the Dovo Laforme but it is like my 4th choice as everything else I like is out of stock. Really want a Boker Picadilly 6 /8ths or T l 7/8ths or the Le Dandy in 6/8ths. Should I settle for the Dovo Laforme or just get the Shapton 16k? Please give me feedback on the Dovo and if it's worth settling for because I am itching to get myself my first brand new razor because I have plenty of antiques. Thanks for reading and for your opinions!

Don't settle! Have you thought about any other brands? I have 2 Dovo's I bought brand new and they are my least favorite razors. They give good shaves but IMHO a $200 Dovo is the same as a $80 Dovo. Just my take... Don't settle when spending 300 bones. Good luck on your search.

I agree - get the Shapton and get used to how it handles so you'll be ready for when the razor you *really* want arrives.
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

Thanked: 2I'm leaning toward the stone as much as I really want a new razor I'm really liking the Picadilly and the Le Dandy. I can't even say that it's not a 3 way tie with a new Ralf Aust in Olive wood. I really should have put a poll on this one EC

Thanked: 2I got lucky Royal. I got a nice old Henckels for 10 bucks and polished and and honed it up tightened and centered the blade and sold it on ebay for $154. Then I put an add in a Facebook local classified asking to buy old straight razors and I got a very old wade and butcher made a set of buffalo horn scales and sold it to a local collecter for 175.

Thanked: 2I don't have any nice honing equipment below 4k so I'm already getting a Dmt 220 and a Shapton 1k but I just couldn't decide if I really needed the 16k. I have been finishing with a 12k but the 16k is really appealing. This could all change in the event that something I really like comes in because it will come honed. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying Dovo is a bad brand but I don't really care for gold etching or the rounded point. Not to mention almost everything is 5/8ths and I like at least a 6/8ths.

Get the hone and restore a nicer razor for yourself
The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.
