Thanked: 1packing a razor for flight
I'm taking a trip in May. I'm taking my strop and razor and I know that I need to check the razor with my checked baggage. What I don't know is the best possible method of packing it to protect it from the jarring and such.

Well, of course you can use some bubble wrap but more practical is to just fold it up in a towel. Also, don't take anything fancy with you. You don't want some baggage handler walking off with it.

Thanked: 1I still have the coffin the razor came in. would that be a good thing to pack it in after I've wrapped it up?

I'd start with a couple of rubber bands to guarantee it stays closed. Follow that with a protactive layer of bubble wrap. You may want to wrap a piece of paper around the outside of that with a warning. Something like, "DANGER: Contents are excessively sharp".

Don't make a habit of rubber bands on plastic or celuloid scales. It'll warp them.

The razor coffin should work fine without rubber bands.
I recall that someone sticks their razor in a shoe for
added protection.
Thieves stealing your razor are another matter altogether.

Thanked: 1Wow, I must have totally misunderstood that advice late last night.
Here's what I was thinking:
wrap the razor and insert it in the coffin. Use the rubber bands to secure the coffin closed and then wrap the coffin in the bubble wrap.
Hmm, guess I better stay off the 'net late at night
