Default In the barber shop today

So today, I was getting my hair cut and got talking to my barber, who is 85 or 86 years old, about straight razors and shaving. What a wonderful conversation we had. It is amazing to talk to someone twice my age and think about all the experiences he has had and listen to all the stories.

He started working in a barber shop when he was 16 or 17, that's 70 years he has been at it!!! And he still works 4 or 5 days a week, the guy is amazing.

I also found out that my wife's grandfather help train him when he was just starting out.

The older I get the more I appreciate moments like this one today.

So if you get the chance, go find an old barber and sit down with him for a while, you will probably learn lots and they always have plenty of good stories to tell.

Very interesting that your wife's helped train him......it's a small world!

I have a problem with doing that. I am twice the age of most all barbers. LOL

My barber is not that old but when I noticed the strop in the chair I started the straight conversation. He is a straight shaver himself and full of tips for a better shave.

    Very nice indeed

It doesn't have to be a barber either. Ever since I was a child I understood the potential contribution older generations could make. Their wealth of knowledge on many subjects and wisdom is something too few people recognize. While the world is full of technology, they offer perspective. If you have older family members still alive, be sure to make the most of your time together.

I'm the oldest family member on either my wife's side or mine. Non of them view me as wise or a source of useful prospective.
I must be doing the old thing wrong. LOL Piss on on them, I'll take it with me.

You two can share your wisdom with us new folks at SRP, we will listen (or at least pretend to, even if you repeat yourself too often or get side tracked).

Back to the conversation with the barber, one thing I just remembered was that I asked him about what brands of razors he used in the past. He said he has used a lot of different brands, but being in Bradford he of course used a lot of WR Case razors. The other brand he talked about was Carl Monkhouse (C MON) but instead of talking about the razor he started telling me all about Carl. He knew him well and used to go visit him in his office in Allegheny, NY.

Can you recall anything he said about his visits with Monkhouse. That wouldliven up DRP's history section. C-MON's, my favorite razor (have 5 C-MON's and Michel's).
