    Unhappy Taylor of Woe!

    I need help guys.

My wife and I have been in Oxford, UK, for the past week and a half while I do some work. We are here for another week.

During that time I have bought a few technical books - all up I've spent about 250 pounds.

Anyway, we are going to London tomorrow and I wanted to pop into Taylor of Old Bond Street to, you know, "look" at straights and stuff. I mentioned this to the wife and was told "books or razors, you choose." Too late, I already bought the books

But....but....has anyone got any ideas? I thought about pretending to mis-hear her a' la "Books *and* razors. You choose!" Gee thanks honey!

Personally, I think I'm stuffed - I'll just have to wait until I'm over here again (probably in less than 6 months time). But, as they say "A problem shared is a problem doubled."

    James.

There are a lot of really good ladies shoe shops in teh rough vicinity. Make sure you walk past them on the way to Taylors, and even point a few out...

    Hey Brother Jimbo,

Wow. that's a problem...I use two methods to avoid the evil eye.

    1) "Wow, look honey! Do you know what this is? You can't get this back in the states/island/AU!!! It's a limited edition (name of brand...don't worry if it isn't limited, just get the brand right) I could get a fortune (right... ) for this if I post it on the forum (never plan to though...) It's an investment too good to turn up"

---ok, so it's a bold faced lie, but it does work sometimes.

    2) "Hmm...you know honey, I bet that (name someone...male prefered) would love this. He's done so much, I'll get it for his bday/christmas/Halloween gift. It's perfect"

---Incidentally you later find the "more" perfect gift, but since it's so much trouble to ship it back (or you lost the reciept)...

Hope I don't get you in trouble and have fun "looking"

    Thanks for the thoughts guys.

Technical books are investments in your career/business and you invest in your career business so you can afford more blades. So buying those books means you HAVE to buy more blades. It's a rule and you don't have a choice no matter how much you really want to accomodate her poorly-thought-out demands for limitations.

Yep, I like that one too. And part of it is technically correct (the best type of correct!) - In fact, I can claim those books on my book allowance budget through Uni - why didn't I think of that before?

You guys are the best. Thanks.

"Oh, I thought when you said it was 'my choice', you meant that you didn't care which of any or either I get."

How often do you get to save shiping and border charges on stuff from England? The more you spend, the more you save!

You could always be a man, stand up straight, look her dead in the eyes (preferably in front of the Taylor clerk) and say, "You're not trying to tell me what to do with my money are you?"

Ohhh I don't recommend that one.. If I said that to my wife well when I woke up I would have a hospital bill to pay and a pain in my head... I prefer the sneaky method.. Do a lot of walking in the AM tire her out and when she takes a nap in the afternoon slip out and buy the Taylor stuff...
