James, you should be able to get a form at the airport to claim back VAT on all products you've bought here. I'm not sure exactly how it works since I've never been able to do this, being a UK resident.
Books in the UK attract zero rate VAT so you wouldn't be able to claim back on those. Almost everything else that's not essential gets 17.5% slapped on.
Check here to find out how to claim VAT back when you get to the airport. Needless to say, keep all receipts!!

Thanked: 1587Well, we found Jermyn Street yesterday. What a place! Full of upmarket (and expensive, by the looks of them) stores for the discerning gentleman. I also discovered that my alltime hero, Sir Isaac Newton, lived on that street.
Anyway, we came at it from the Piccadilly Circus (I think...) end - where all the theatres are, at any event. Turned the corner and ran straight into Trumper's. Took a quick look in there and had a chat with a very nice fellow in the shop. They only sell Dovos, but would sell Sheffield steel if they were still being made.
Kept going up the other end to Taylors - bigger shop than Trumpers. Staff seemed less friendly, but maybe they were a bit busy at the time. Anyway, took a look at their razors - same as Trumpers but slightly smaller range.
Both shops had a HUGE range of Mach3 handles and shave sets.
Bottom line, I bought a Dovo 5/8 (No. 3) Spanish point with dark Buffalo horn scales, a worked back, and goldwashed spine and tang from Trumpers. She's beautiful. Cost a fair bit... Photos to follow as soon as I work out where my wife put our camera.
Unfortunately (or fortunately, I'm not sure which) we were in a rush to get to the Gielgud theatre - my wife has been dying to see Equus (starring Harry Potter, in the nude I might add - isn't there some law against that? I'm sure he's only 17...). This was why I got my razor, by the way. So no time to check out the soaps, creams etc. Next time, I guess.
By the way, if you get the chance I highly recommend Equus - fantastic play, marvellous production. The set and lighting were fabulous too. Uncle Vernon (from Harry Potter) is a brilliant actor in the lead role of psychiatrist, and Daniel Radcliffe does an excellent job.

Thanked: 1587OK, some pics of the razor. They're a poor excuse for a set of photos, I know, but they're the best I can do for now.

It's the Bergischer Löwe!! My favorite Dovo razor to look at. If I had the $$$ I'd buy one myself.
