Thanked: 3225I don't know why anyone would be upset by the review. I get perfectly fine shaves with an Arko stick, a sub $10.00 Omega brush and an ugly old Gillette Open Comb DE. The whole kit must have coat me about $20.00. I think he may have a point.

Thanked: 2Oh I get that about the expensive stuff Bob. But calling us folks snobs that like more than starter equipment and the condescending tone of the review... My feels.

The part that gets me the most is, and I quote:
"There are plenty of things in this world where the level of craftsmanship and attention to detail make a huge difference. Guitars are such a product. Automobiles are another. Shaving brushes and bowls are NOT!!!
Don't be a dumb shaving snob, just go shave your face, then start investing yourself in something thats actually important."
After being on here for just a few months I realized the level of dedication and craftsmanship of some people's brushes meet or exceed many other hobbies.
And I won't even go there on the point of calling what we enjoy not important nor worth the time for enjoymentA fool flaunts what wisdom he thinks he has, while a wise man will show that he is wise silently.

The "choose my position or you are my enemy" or "us versus them" approach attracts an audience; it always has, but it rarely survives an educated rebuttal and speaks poorly to the author in the long run. He lacks wisdom and depth of experience to cast such galvanizing views credibly. I remember when I was that guy; 22 years ago when I had more opinion than experience in this life journey.
Glad he's straight shaving....the wiser version will show up after a few more miles on those tires."More progress is lost to indecision than bad decision" - Author Unknown.

What got me most was ...... "1,961 of 2,108 people found the following review helpful"
Lotta people read that review. Amazon is something else.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 3225If all you are after is a very good shave you really do not need much more than starter equipment which is I think his point. More than a few beginners get the idea that by spending money on expensive gear you can buy yourself a substantially better shave when basically you really can't, at least I can't. The difference in shave quality I get between my mentioned beater kit and my more expensive gear is not substantial enough to justify it on a cost to performance ratio. Sure I like the nice stuff but I am not at a great disadvantage if I did not have it as far as getting a good shave goes. The biggest part is having the skill not the equipment. That has been the bottom line in any hobby that I have pursued. Looking from the outside in on a hobby I could see where people could get the idea that there was some snobbishness involved. Yes, it can be aggravating to be labelled a snob but I really don't care personally.

Thanked: 2Exactly Jimmy. Most thought it was a funny review. And new folks that may run across such information and may be persuaded to not seek out very sound, informative advice like I have been fortunate enough to receive from vets of the shave. Instead it will be chalked up to elitist snobbery. It's a shame. I learned to actually shave from you guys here and other places.
