Bah! Just noticed that! Looks like we have driven the price up. My first one cost £5.50 delivered the next will cost me a tenner!

Maybe, just maybe I should just save a bit and go for the Sheffield Steel TI I have been drooling over for the past 4 months!

Yeah, I was thinking on getting a couple too, settled on 2- one for a friend I'm bringing back into the ways of the straight. I was planning on a set too, but can't justify it for now and was hoping to be able to in the next month or so. Hoping prices stay low.... Seems we have driven up the price....or reduced his supply causing the increase. Maybe if we all stop buying for a while....

Supply and demand. What a concept. Too bad we don't have any of our lawmakers on this thread (that I know of). J.

That's my guess. There's only so many NOS 1970s Wapienicas out there, and we've been buying a lot of them lately!

Not sure if they are all actually from the 70's. my two had dates of 1986 and 1996 on the paper in the bag. They were each of different rivit design, and likely different era's....Don't much matter to me either way.

    Default Wapienica 5/8ths

I have one that I would like to hone. What exactly should I be looking for in the blade?? The edge has a nice bite when I test it on my thumbad, and it feels pretty good on the thumbnail although towards the toe it jumps a little bit. I have never honed a razor before. I can post pics if it would help.

First, don't be doing the thumbnail test after stropping. the thumbNAIL test is for used when honing and the thumbPAD is used when stropping.

Second, if you strop it and it bites the thumbpad, it's time to do a test shave (which will tell you what needs to be done better than any other test)

Strop it and shave, if it gives you the results you want, all set. If not, you can go back to the hone for a few strokes, strop and test shave again.

Tell us what the test shave was like when you do it.

I put a little strop dressing on the strop last night so I am going to need to wait a while before I test shave. Is 1 day long enough??

Search on that Matt, I'm not sure how long to let the dressing soak in and dry.

Try starting a separate thread in the honing forum. Be sure to tell us what hones that you have.
