    Default Its a sad day

Today i packed all my straights, strops and hones into my toolbox and put them into the closet at my moms. I just havent had time lately to fuss with them. Maintaining and not to mention all the time it takes to shave with them in a very shared bathroom. Work is getting tough. Long hours with no time to play with my toys.

Recently i have been using de razors because of the ease of use and how much faster it is.

I dont plan on leaving straights forever but for a few months.. which is not a good feeling. I feel like im turning my back on the straight.

    Hopefully i come back soon..

Nothing wrong with a good DE shave. It is certainly a good way to go if you're pressed for time. I use a DE if I'm running late for church in the morning. The straights will be there when you get ready for them. Perhaps on a day off, or on a weekend.

Some times you have to do what you have to do. You'll be fooling around with them all again soon enough. Not like they are going anywhere.

There are many volunteers (I'm one of them) to adopt your toys instead keeping in the dark closet. Who knows your babies might develop some kind of phobia. [emoji83]

Taking a breather is no big deal, think of it as getting to spend sometime with your brush and some nice soaps, as Jimmy mentions, nothing wrong with a DE shave at all. When you're ready, you'll be hopping back into the game much farthe down the road - sometimes a break is all you need for everything to come together later - good luck!

You are not going anywhere. You are still wet shaving aren't you? I use my DEs/SEs regularly just for a change of pace and there is nothing wrong with that.

That's one of the reasons the safety razor was like so much when it finally caught on, time saver. Nothing wrong with that we all know the benefits of a good sharp single edge. For some straight razors are a hobby, for some a business, and some a way of life, some maybe a passing fad. When you get the time go back to it, start a career a family then pass it down to you sons or daughters.

The only time I use a DE is for travel. Even in rush I use a straight as it really takes hardly any more time. I might just strop 15 strokes on leather and only do a single pass but I can get the job done fast enough that there's really no reason to use anything else.

When you have time to get back to them, you will become more and more adept at shaving with your straights. It really does not need to be a long drawn out process. A couple of minutes should be all you need if that is all that you have.

I,m with Ron on this , if you have to OK, but time shouldn't hold you back, I might take 20 minutes on a weekend full 3 pass but my Monday thru Friday's take no longer than a de shave 10 minutes tops sometimes 5 if I don't have much time. Hang in there. Tc

Lately I have been shaving with some great Vintage Gillette DE's and very much enjoying the venture.
Red tip, Blue Tip,Bblack Tip, the adjustable and SuperSpeeds in various years. There is as much variety as in Straights, maybe more, and at good prices.
I wouldn't see it as such a bad day, just something different for a while.
Enjoy, there is lots to look forward to in DE's.
