First cut while honing
Well I was done honing and I was stropping. Then decided to switch strops and had the razor in my hand along with a strop in each hand trying to juggle the swap to the hook on the wall and bumped the tip of my ring finger on the razor in my other hand that I just honed. Sorry, I didn't take any bloody pics but after a run to the emergi-care I now have a finger all wrapped up with a splint over it to keep from bumping it.
6 stitches. According to the blood line on the razor, I figure it was about a 2/8 deep slice straight in. Not a slice but a deep cut! Right on the tip. The way I see it is I've honed about 75 to 80 times/razors now days so it was bound to happen.
Not that I'm home the wife tells me I'm not going to be honing anymore today. Ha! I got one more to go and I'm left handed so no biggie. I'm going to finish what I started! The worst part of getting stitched up was the needle to numb it for the stitches. It's just Sharpening, right?

I told you Santa wasn't happy with you!!!
With that said, keep that cut DRY! It'll heal better with less scarring. Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdin’s cave of 'stuff'.

Thanked: 38Scars are nothing to worry about. Keep it clean so it doesn't become infected. Else you may lose it...

Thanks for the well wishes. I'll be fine. I heal well still when it comes to this type of stuff. Now if I had cut the finger off, I'd have an issue. Got the last razor finshed up even with the dirty looks from the wife. You know the old saying, if you fall off a horse you get right back on!
It's just Sharpening, right?

Six stitches is a nice slice...
The good news is a clean slice correctly cared for will heal nicely.
Enjoy the holiday and watch out for paper cuts unwrapping packages.

Thanked: 292Well, that shows that you know how to hone a keen edge.
It is also a good reminder to all of us that straight razors need to be respected at all times, not just when we are shaving.
The nice thing about razor cuts is that they normally heal quickly. I hope that is the case with yours.
