Now there's a man with the right attitude. My dumb questions are lost in the ether, as well.

Even if you cant get it restored, im sure many of the members here can help rebuild what was lost while weeding out many threads that have died off.

weird - I didn't know that after I erase my PMs they are kept for months

Do the admins or others have access to read these PMs? Coming from an ex-Communist Big Brother country, I am not thrilled. On the other hand, I don't think these messages are really that confidential or privileged so it's not like I care too much... I'd just like to know

    Cheers

    Ivo,

I suspect (but I don't know for sure) that all parties involved in the PM (ie, sender and all recipients) have to delete the PM before it will disappear from the database. I can tell you that based on the site's statistics lots of users don't delete PMs until they hit the max. These "statistics" (and related functions) do allow admins to know how many PMs are in the system, know how many PMs a user has stored, how much database space the PMs are taking up, etc. But there are no admin or moderator function to actually read a user's PMs in our forum software.

Although, there is an add-on for vBulletin (our forum software) that does allow the "superadministrator" to read user PMs, but we have not (and don't plan on) installing it... I suppose other vBulletin based forums you belong to could have, however.

    LOL - thanks, Joe!

I hit the PM max all the time, fairly active, so when they approach 200 I usually download and archive them ... Wouldn't want to miss some of the pearls I have

    Cheers

Dang, I'd better check to see if my PMs are still there.
