    There may in fact be something to the almost nonexistent use of strops with shaving for a few generations now and an overall lack of discipline....
    The Standard Guide to Razors Third Edition by Ritchie & Stewart on pages 23-26 talk about an old WWII vet who believed that enlisted men that were forced to hand in their straights and receive a toilet kit with a safety razor and kept using the safety razor after the war didn't discipline their kids with a strop as past generations had; and as such, in his opinion, we've suffered for it as a society!

    I'm sure that, in a pinch, a resourceful veteran would be able to make do with whatever was on hand. In fact, the smaller surface area of a belt would be more painful than a typical strop anyway.

    I can vouch for that... a hickory switch (selected by the target) was also very popular back then.

    that was my moma favorite wepon of choice me and my brother got it at least once a day. just to keep our bowles moving.
