Looking at the threads you can tell that not many people hang around after 6 months (relatively speaking.)
Just wondering if there were any plans on changing the brackets or using a different method next time to even them out.
Not that I'm complaining! I love me a chance at free stuff!

I hate getting into the debate of how to differentiate the groups again, but I have suggested post count. Yes, I know that the crash messed things up, but someone with 500 posts has obviously spent more time "interacting" with the forum than someone with 10, regardless of how long they have been signed up as a member. Also, after the crash, I doubt that those who were active before and had their names deleted suddenly stopped posting. It is continued activity that I am suggesting here.
On a lighter note, it is after all a giveaway! It is a generous show to all of the members here, regardless of activity level and I think it is well appreciated by everyone. Thanks SRP

The way I look at it it's a raffle of the many generous donations to generate some excitement and some 'fun'. So, the cutoffs may seem arbitrary, but they seem quite ok to me. Yeah, the distribution isn't even, but I'd rather the old-timer guys who stick around longer have better chance of winning. They carry most of the burden anyways. The even distribution is equal chance to everybody, so single group - I don't like that.
I didn't enter the newbie raffle because if I'd won that'd have defeated the purpose of it. I may soon qualify for the mid-term raffle, but if that group is to disappear I wouldn't mind at all. But certainly the old-timers should have a separate raffle.
Post count is another possibility, but I have more posts than many much more senior and experienced members who post more wisely than me, so I'd rather not get any seniority because of that.
Time limits are fine, 6 months and a year work.

Thanked: 21If you think about it, the site wouldn't be worth very much without those who hang around longer than six months. Like with any forum, its the old-timers that make the difference.
For the newbies, I think there are plenty of perks with or without the raffle-- largely honing services and starter-friendly sharpened blades without eBay prices, or the eBay crapshoot on serviceability, and don't forget the advice and encouragement.
I've been here a while, but I really just started with a non-Feather straight, so I'm a newbie in many ways. Kind of being half involved with straight shaving for years makes it immediately apparent just how valuable a resource the old timers can be. Whatever SRP can do to keep them interested and participating is worthwhile.

Actually it is a coincidence. We labeled the Newbies with the first six months behind the month of the give-away which was February. That is January 2008 back thru August 2007. We then realized we needed to add the first fifteen days of February so the Newbies is actually six and a half months. The Mid-Term got the next six months which was July 2007 back thru February 2007. The Old Timers went from January 2007 and earlier.
The March give-away will be the Newbies from March 15, 2008 back thru September 2007. The Mid-Term will go from August 2007 back thru March 2007. The Old Timers will go from February 2007 and earlier.
I hope that that helps. And those of us that are doing the give-away cannot and will not be in the give-away.if anything has been abnormal for a long enough period it then becomes normal.

Good Grief!
Can people not be happy to be part of this generous giveaway..
Seems like folk bitch about stuff that takes a lot of time and work to put together and make happen. Different ways and permutations...let ONE of them take the reins NEXT TIME and organize something..a group buy, a giveaway...something that has benefits to all BUT THEMSELVES
I can never underestimate people, it seems...
Thank you to those that gave and contributed time and effort to this.

Thanked: 9Did I not see that there was supposed to be a new newbie raffle starting on 3/1? I mean, my first razor should be (hopefully) on its way to me already, but that doesn't quench the excitement of the possibility of winning something.
edit: This is certainly not meant to be a complaint. I think it's awesome that you do these raffles, no matter who they're for or when they get done.Last edited by chancecatalyst; 03-03-2008 at 02:19 PM.
