Yeah, it all looks very small scale, but they still make 150 straight razors a day.

I can't get it to play with Media player. Is it my program or do I need Quicktime?

It's probably your codecs, for all my codec needs I usually download the k-lite codec pack, it has all the most commonly used ones.

I totally agree, stick with the X pattern with the blade flat on the hone. What she is doing is referred to in the Razor Central doc in the archives. It is called "setting the bevel". But...it is mostly used in the knife world and does not lead to a decent razor bevel. Why they use it I do not know.

Cheers Randy, I really enjoyed that. Two things I found remarkable:

[1] At 3.38 there's some serious hammering on the blanks. Which made me wonder... if the guy can hammer away at blanks like that, why is it a little ding on my faucet ends up cracking the blade?

[2] At 8.04... that's some fast short stropping she has going on there!

It's been years since I've done it .. but maybe the steel hasn't been hardened and tempered yet .
I did this years ago in school making a screwdriver ... hehe many many years ago ..

It appears that they are correcting warping of the blade while it is still thick, i.e. before grinding but after tempering.

That was a cool video. I would bet the workers "slowed" the pace in a few areas for the video. I bet those guys can turn out razors well, like its their job.
