Thread: How Many Notches In your Belt?

While showering today and thinking ahead to my shave I started counting straight razor shaves. I figure at about three shaves per week and over two and a half years at it I'm in the area of 400 straight razor shaves under my belt. I don't use anything else, myself so it's easy to calculate. It made me wonder about the level of experience by our active members, so how about you? How many straight razor shaves have you had?

Well, this is a very rough guesstimate, but because I also do my head on a daily basis I'd have to say somewhere in the order of 1.3-1.5K. I guess you'd roughly halve that if you don't count face and head as separate shaving exercises, but I'm going with the larger number as I reckon it gives me more street cred.

Lets see 1981- 1994 average of 3 per week, then this past year at 5 per week that's ummmmmmmm about 2300 !!!!!!

Over 2000 I am certain, but by how much, I have no idea!

Oh, I only shave my face.

I've got somewhere around 3 or 4 hundred... I shave daily. and I've done partial shaves on half a dozen friends... really gets the point across about the quality of a straight shave over electric or disposables when you only shave one side for them...

I shave every day. Using exclusively the straight for the past 5 months gets me in the neighborhood of 150.

Argh! Shouldn't have voted right after waking up from my nap... 2yrs, once a day every day = ~730, not ~400. Could I get a moderator to move a vote from 251-500 to 500-700? Somewhere between neophyte and expert, I reckon.

Almost a year (7 days to go) about 5 times a week I usually only skip Sunday but there have been others so I'll be conservative and say 255 shaves to date.
so lets add this all up the initial equation was,
use non disposable = save money
21 straight razors = who's going to admit that
6 strops = why?
6 hones = to much
enough soap and shave cream to wash a small country = a big girls blouse

outcome = didn't save jack shit.

a well I had fun anyway.

No such thing as too many hones. I've got about 3 back home and 5 here, I plan on getting more too.

My shaves were all well documented in my shave journal until the sever crash Somebody really should hang for that.

Lets see I been straight shaving for 4 months if I remember correctly but in this past 6 weeks or so I have had a grand total of 3 shaves. I would put mine in the under 50 category if not spot on 50.
