You're not missing that much. They are, in my experience, very pushy on the sales pitch. They're sales folks don't really know that much about wetshaving - just what the company tells them and this is all geared to increase their sales. They present themselves as "old school", but they're really not. Now, having said all of this, I do understand that they have to pay high rent and you can't do that unless you bring home the bacon. I have mixed feelings about them.

Perhaps I'll just stick with ordering their Pre-shave Oil online. However, I should be visiting Manhattan this summer...I'll have to pop in to their Madison Ave store just to check them out.

Oh, you should. Also be sure to visit Cambridge Chemists and Pasteur's Pharmacy in the 60s on Lexington Ave. Their selection of shaving stuff all in one place will blow your mind (mostly creams, soaps, a/s, etc). Also visit Penhaligon's up around 72nd and Madison. Bring $$ and enjoy.

they have excellent products, but they are expensive.
The razors are 5/8 TI,s not 4/8ths... and are good quality, but overpriced.
There is another benefit to buying their razors though... You can actually inspect them before you leave the store.
Otherwise, you should try their products at least once.

i don't know where you are at, but here in dallas, i have found all of the associates at AOS to be complete idiots. you would do much better in other areas to purchase from. that being said, i love their pre-shave oil, and if you ask nicely, they will give lots of samples of their shave creams. ask the pretty girls. oh, and don't let them shave you.
