Thanked: 22Mike: I'm confused by that comment. Was that some sort of sarcasm by Adam or what? He says he uses a mock3 coz he thinks straights are dangerous then continues to say he uses a straight, which is it?
I know you don't know the answer but WTF.

Thanked: 1It looked like sarcasm to me, kind of like how someone would reply that they're fine when blood is squirting from a deep gash. In other words I would hanker a guess that he was offended by the question if he really used a straight or not.
In retrospect, the picture of his norton looked unflattened and since he made no mentioning of flattening one could surmise his stone was unflat. That could contribute to the need to resharpen over and over and thus garner his opinion for frequent honing.

Okay so those of you with facebook accounts...
The group started by Mr. Gonzales is now mine. I have been working on posting some good and accurate information, as well as removing any poor advice. However, I AM still a newbie and would really like the feedback of our local experts.
AND, I promise that I won't be hurt if my info needs a bit of tweaking.
HERE IS THE GROUP
I've invited a bunch of people, messaged a couple old members who might have received bad information, and tried to refer members to SRP as much as possible.
THOUGHTS?

Thanked: 586Instructible is an adjective that means capable of being instructed. The word that should be used is "instruction".
Why would someone who's only been using a straight razor a few months feel he is now skilled enough to train the uninitiated? This reminds me of the old Monty Python skit where John Cleese stands before you and says, Today we are going to learn how to play the flute. First you blow into this end and move your fingers rapily up and down the things over here".

Thanked: 3I jumped on the group and added some mostly-concurring thoughts.
Let me resuggest putting up new instructible posts to counteract this one, even if it is gone. I'm nowhere near experienced enough to do so myself.

Maybe I amout of left field here ... but...
I got a beef with the "I'm gonna post some 1/2 learned crap and expect the world to teach me how to do it right because:
-I dont want to take the time to learn how to do it right
or
-My ego tells me I know everything " mentality.
I don't mind helping others with a valid interest in something I am knowledgeable about ... but to initiate a finger pointing contest and expect others who actually are knowledgeable to be civil about it is just crap.
Sure ... the indestructables website has some cool stuff on it... but these type of antics drag down the good intentions of the site. It's a bummer, too.
Just for the record ...
It has been my experience that the people here at this posting board are generous and knowledgeable ... and willing to share that knowledge ... if asked.
Where this clown gets off slamming someone for $25-$30 ... I dunno.
Carry on.

Thanked: 3795My favorite part of his video: the fact that he learned a nice little trick by himself--the hanging hair test. Wow, since he invented this technique, maybe he should patent it!
Damn, there's no smiley for dripping sarcasm!
