Well to me its a very bad thing, because I was to understand stretching the skin whilst shaving actually causes the skin to tighten and perhaps make you appear young again. But it seems to be having an adverse affect on me.

Well, this was a topic that i was worried about. I thought that when you would stretch your skin for the straight, that it would get loose faster than with normal shaving methods. And i don't know if i want that!

You don't need to worry about skin stretching loosening your skin too much, you'll be fine. You just need to stop getting older at the same time.

Skin thinning is caused by using a Feather razor, because of its sharpness level it removes several layers of skin cells with each shave. Shave everyday for a week or two and you have very little skin left. Your shaving it off faster than it can grow back. After a while you can even feel like your skin is thinner. Its a very uncomfortable feeling.

I think it might all be in our heads though and not actually happening, although it sure feels like your turning your face into a medical experiment.

I was wondering about some of those angles that the gentleman was using too. If I had used my feather in that way, then I am afraid I would have some scar tissue in the end. I was actually beginning to wonder if he even had a blade in the razor...

Chris, the Feather Pro blades are so sharp that they actually remove layers off your skin without you noticing. Eventually, if you shave with them every day (well, for some of us anyway) you skin becomes glossy, smooth and becomes prone to nicks and cuts that would not have happened earlier. I particularly remember one of the last times I used a Pro blade that an otherwise oily aftershave product that would sit on my skin making it tacky suddenly absorbed virtually instantly.... I could almost hear a sucking sound as it went right into my skin.... Unlike the many times before there was no trace of it after application... that's when I decided to save the rest of my Pro blades... my skin felt quite literally like white onion skin... papery thin and very smooth, however it was the inability to shave without nicks that was the most annoying part. Switching to the Pro Super blades brought everything under control, those blades are fantastic once you learn to use them. You can shave right over a nick from the day before and not disturb it while still getting a nice close shave. The secret of those Pro Super blades are much like the diagram shown in this page from Shick in Japan, just scroll down to the bottom where they show drawings of the way they build the edge on their brand of straight razor blades. That clamshell edge lets you lift the very edge ever so slightly when needed by simply bringing the spine a touch closer to your face and it skims over the skin surface, floating on a micro thin layer of lather but still lopping the stubble off with no tugging.

While I'm very happy with the fact that I've made the switch to traditional straights, I'll never dispute that the Feather AC isn't suitable for daily shaving... as long as you pick the blade that is right for you. I think the part I didn't like the most was the lack of variety... Same razor, same effortless shave, same treading on eggshells as it's so damn sharp....... it gets boring after a while.

Those 90 degree angles he was using with that razor made me cringe a bit. But he seemed to get a good shave. . .

As always, thanks for the into, Christian. I do want to try a feather shave or two sometime just for the experience to have as a sharpness reference point, but am not interested enough to actually buy one of the shaving units and blades.
