All things being equal, I'd still recommend getting a straight. I use my little PCR wedge for trimming. It's sharp enough that it will easily cut a free hanging hair.

I use it weekly to even up my sideburns, and trim up the edges... also with a comb to keep the hair even, it works every bit as good as a pair of electric clippers with a guide to keep thinge clean and even.
