Actually, I don't think that this is necessary at all. Here's why:

    1. If you're a newbie here, then reporting to the newbie forum is the thing to do, don't ya think?

    2. If you go to the newbie forum, there is a sticky post that says "Newbies Read This First," and it's right at the top of the forum (a sticky is a post that stays at the top, they are highlighted in red)

    3. If you read the post that says "Newbies Read This First" then, you'll see a link to the Common Acronyms and Abbreviations post.

If you don't do that, then you're doing it wrong.
I don't know what more could be done than that. That's how I learned what the acronyms were.

Ouch Ben325e, those are some harsh words. I did not think that there was a right and a wrong way to learn in this forum. I can only say that I am amazed at how you learned the acronyms with your method... And I think that you are right, "were" is probably correct... ;-)

Well, I have gotten a lot with this post: a bit good sense of humor combined with a drop of harshness and great information. Thank you hoglahoo and BeBerlin for the TRUE! link for the acronyms and the search tips. Perhaps something that could be done is to add this link with the acronyms to the newbies corner so that the newbies could learn the "right" way. ;-)

    Mission accomplished,

    Al raz.

    My apologies again,

I just want to point out a little bugaboo I have about this. Things like DD, DE, HHT, TPT and BDIC are initials. They are not acronyms. An acronym is a word formed by the initials of several words. So, Razor Aquisition Disorder forms the acronym RAD and Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus forms SCUBA. Now please continue and have fun.

Icedog, you are correct, thank you. Ben325e, no problem. Now, speaking of acronyms how about these:

acronym: Annoyingly Cryptic References or Names You Make; A Contrived Reduction Of Nomenclature Yielding Mnemonics; Abbreviated Code Rarely Or Never Yielding Meaning; A Contrived Reduction Of Nomenclature Yielding Mnemonics; Automatic Computerized Reorganization of Names Yielding Meaninglessness. I cannot take credit for these but since we are in the topic of "initialisms and acronyms"...;-)

    I agree with ICEDOG!

I have an additional peeve about the misuse of acronyms when guys will use them for the name of a company. - and not a well known company that we all are aware of, either. Yes, it has happened on this forum. When I see this I think, "now what company is he talkin' about?"

Why not just spell out the darn company name? I am thinking of my old English teacher that ranted about Reader's Digest and how awful it was to take a written story and condense it down. He would get livid talking about that. I wonder what he would think of the use of acronyms today?

    Steve
