Thanked: 1Acronym help please
Hello all. I am very grateful for all I have learned by just reading the posts on this site. However there are some acronyms I am not quite able to place. Would some kinds souls please define some of the terms used here-heck I don't even know the ones I don't know!
For exampe: DD, DE?? What are these?
I have figured out the following:
WTG: with the grain
XTG: across the grain
ATG: against the grain
Maybe an index of wet/straight shaving terms can be made sticky somewhere.
As always, thanks for your help.
~Robert

DD ... Double D = really big boobs .... or DublDuck razor?
DE = Double Edge razor - a classic safety razor that has two blade edges exposed (one on each side of the head)

I have a suggestion
After reading a few posts, I have been amazed at the number of acronyms that are used, and that obviously, I do not know ;-). I think that in general the use of acronyms is a bad idea in the long term. Yes, it saves people a few seconds but it also limits the flow of information. Ultimately, the advantage of using the web and forums like this is to gain access to information fast. The use of acronyms detracts from the usefulness of this forum. Also, it is not the best for archival purposes but who cares about that. Really, some posts reminded me of the scene in A day at the races where Chico is selling the tootsie-frootsie ice cream. I am aware that people are not going to change their posting habits just because I say so ;-). There are 2 suggestions:
1) include the name of the word/s for for the acronym in the first usage.
2) Include the link with the common abbreviations thread in the wiki so that people can easily find it. I can help in this process but I do not know many acronyms.
Do you guys think that these good suggestions?

Yes I think those are good suggestions! I don't think they're necessary though, as it really doesn't take long to catch on and as you say they are already in the wiki and not so hard to find.
I don't think I use acronyms often at all, but I will certainly bear in mind your suggestions in my future posts!

Besides air, water and food, one can argue that nothing is really "necessary", correct? Helpful may be a different issue. RobertSubnet posted because he could not find the answer to his question so easily. I think, and I have the feeling that I am not the only one, the use of acronyms complicates the process of finding answers, especially for newbies like me. I am not trying to tell people what to do but I think that it may be of great help to have a glossary that could be accessed easily. A google search using "wtg" reports 1.450.000 hits... If instead, you use the search engine in the forum, the following message appears:
- Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms. The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search : wtg
I do not think that it is so easy.
And by the way, I was not able to go to the wiki article using your link ;-) Perhaps I am having a bad day ;-).

Well, I'll be jiggered, you are having a bad day indeed! Hopefully this will make it better
The Wiki article listing some common abbreviations
Also, I searched for "acronyms" in the Wiki to find that. Unfortunately, neither the SRP forums nor the Wiki allow 3-letter word searches (optimize your search with google is an option though!). Like I said, and like you said, it isn't necessary but it can be helpful to include acronym explanations in posts that have themFind me on SRP's official chat in ##srp on Freenode.
