Oh do I wish I thought of this before my wedding. I turned out OK, but 1) I do not have the most senstive skin of my groomsmen, and 2) I go tmy shave by the msot experienced guy in the shop.
Two other barbers were giving shaves, and I don't think either of them had ever done them before. The guys who used the smae barber I got turned out OK. Not a close comfy shave, but not too much blood and irritation. My younger brother (sensitive skin and rough beard) looked like he was attacked by hornets. Red, bloody, ugly. My good friend was cut on the neck. Nobody had a decent shave.
I wound up doing a touch up before the ceremony.
I hope your experience goes much better!

Yep, I lucked out before my first wedding. I just happened to go to an old Italian barber here in NY. It remains the best shave I've ever had. He finished by "buffing" my face with talcum powder. It literally felt smooth as glass and had no irritation.
The other barber shave I received was before a job interview. I looked like the whiskers had been removed with sandpaper. : Somewhow, I still got the job.
Now, I just do it myself because I enjoy it so much and don't see a reason to take a chance.

how it should feel
Back in the late 70's when I was in Korea, we had a barber shop just behind our barracks, wether it was coming down from the gaurdposts on the dmz or coming out of the field, right after cleaning weapons and a hot meal then shower I would head for the barbershop. They(the girls) would set you right down and commence to washyour hair and face, cut hair, shave face w/ massage and manicure. It didnt matter how dogged out I was when I walked into the place, when I left I was floating. All of that at around 6$ IIRC. If it didnt feel great, it was done wrong! Of course it helps if you dont shower/shave for days or weeks prior to the barber visit!
It is easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled. Twain

I couldn't afford it when I went to vegas last month but I did talk to the head guy at Truefitt and Hill there. He gave me lots of tips and did say never to shave against the grain.
call this barber first though, the guy at T&H said they aren't allowed to use their own/shop straights, but that if somebody brought in their personal razor they could shave them with it. it had something to do with health regulations. I had brought my razor with me to Vegas, gladly it was left 30 minutes away by taxi in my hotel room, thus saving me the 65 dollar shave.
there is a barber here in town, 8 bucks, I keep wanting to go and never have the time to schedule it. maybe I should do that saturday morning.....

Well, had my shave on Thursday, and i must admit i really enjoyed it
the woman made me feel very comfortable and relaxed and talked me through the whole procedure. took about 50 minutes, and i would thoroughly recommend it to anyone!
she used a shavette, although i forgot to ask what blades, and gave two passes WTG leaving a DFS. very enjoyable.
didn't feel a think, no nicks or cuts, only felt like someone was running a ruler down my face, not irritating at all
