There was once a tale of these being experimented on for right or left handed shavers, depending on the side that was flat. Bottom line is that they probably were for the scientific community as David indicated. Lynn

    Thanks all.

I don't plan on making any tissue samples from my face, so I'll pass. :P

    Lynn,
I have heard that one too but it does not seem to work that way. Both double and single handed shavers use both sides of the blade when shaving. One side of the blade for the right cheek and then turn the razor to the opposite side for the left cheek and the handle stays near your nose for either cheek. To keep the same side of the blade (single bevel razor) against your cheek on either side of your face requires the handle be near your ear on one side which would be near impossible on a folding razor. This is how one must do it with a Japanese razor but they are much shorter and woun't fold while in use.

Now on the other hand, a pair of single bevels, one right and one left would work fine for a two handed shaver. I had considered having Murry Carter make me a handed pair of Japanese style razors.

Wow! Yea, then he could make you ANOTHER version with the two single-bevel razors forged together to make ..... wait, double-bevel razors already exist .... never mind!

    David,
Think of all the fun in owning handed razors. Twice as many to hone each month when they get dull, twice as many to strop each and every day before shaving, surely these would satisfy even the most addicted of Honemeisters !
