What's the idea here?

This Puma is hollow ground on one side, and flat on the other. I've never seen anything like this. You just hone one side only? What is the benefit to this design?

Those were made for slicing very thin specimems to make microscopic slides. :shock: They are not meant for shaving whiskers. But, feel free to experiment. See:

I often wondered if maybe some of these were really designed for barber use only. A person shaving another person does not have the same directional "angle of attack" issues of someone shaving his own face so a single bevel would not be as big an issue.

I know my Japanese razors can be a challenge at times. With a single bevel the same side needs to be against your cheek at all times so it is a good deal more awkward than just shaving with one the same hand where you can at least turn the razor.

When I see these single bevel razors, my mind tends to think of single bevel wood chisels and plane irons, and the wood curling back as it is being cut. Then when I start to think of my cheek curling back in the same manner I start to get a bit queezy...
